Within the paradigms that are involved in the culture, other important aspect is the combination between Culture and Psychology. All the cultures and subcultures take some customs, traditions and activities as things that are specific for doing only the woman and other things only for men. On one hand, it is interesting to see how according each place or culture there are these kind of division between genres, also bestowing prestige on certain activities and shame in others. On the other hand, the big effect that it has in the psychology of the people.
Did you know that is common to translate this cultural paradigms from generation to generation?
The culture into which one is born has a significant effect on one's self-esteem, we all have different talents and with a unique personality, because of that, we must to adapt to the way of life of the place we are or live but having real expectations of the things that we can contribute and are within our reach.

The example about what a woman and men have to be in each culture is interesting, what in one culture might be the normal behavior in another can be unacceptable. To answer your question, I think stereotypes in capacities, or intelligence can affect students, also the impact of not feeling accepted or feeling attacked can affect their self-esteem.
