    Differences in emotional expressivity

When we need to communicate or interact each other, part of the communication are our expressions, feelings and emotions. This aspect of communication is called -Emotional Expressivity-

This emotional expressivity is something very distinctive in everyone, and very engrained depending our culture. Because of that, is very common to misunderstood the different expressions or emotions based in the way people expresses it and how we understand or interpret the things or feelings that people is communicating.

It is very important to understand that we all have the same emotions but not all express it in the same way. Even, studies have showed that in private we all express our emotions in a similar way, but in public we are very different. The facial expressions is something characteristic according our culture and it can differ from a culture to another.

Personally I think that, as teacher in formation is essential to know and recognize the diversity in the way our students will express their emotions in the classrooms. Especially if we have a multicultural group. One of the things we can consider is pay attention to the different levels in expressivity because it enables and marks different ranges of tolerance and it will give distorted messages or any misunderstood. We need to work within these paradigms in order to avoid possible confusions or disagrees.

Question to ponder:

-------> What do you think is one advantage or disadvantage in the issue of Emotional Expressivity? How could be amplify or regulate it in order to enrich our classrooms?

Thank you for visiting my post!

  1. Hi Erica, I really like your blog. If we learn to know our students, and their cultural characteristics, it will be easier for us to understand when they are upset, happy, sad, nervous, anxious. If we learn to recognize these feelings it will be easier to work with them.
